From every grade and subject and from every corner of the district, these YouTube playlists feature speeches, essays, editorials, opinions, reflections, learning stories, numeracy/literacy/design, Arts & CTS, creative writing, poetry & spoken word!
#InnovatorsCANThe RockyTalks - #InnovatorsCAN series on the RVS YouTube Channel features stories like this example from Grade Eight Rancheview student, Madi, who shares what it takes for middle school students to become strong leaders. Servant leadership opportunities is one way as it allows older students to mentor younger students. Receiving guidance, kindness and respect from both educators and parents also is paramount in building strong leaders. Mistakes will be made - but that's life!

Produce & Share Your RockyTalks!
Every year, Alberta classrooms share their learning stories through RockyTalks, exhibited on the RVS YouTube Channel which hosts presentations from all over the #rvsed community, from teachers and students in every grade, from every corner of the district, sharing them publicly in the RockyTalks Online Gallery! RVS Teachers can share their YouTube playlists of RockyTalks videos that their students have created in any subject or format including speeches, essays, position papers, opinions & editorials, learning stories, numeracy/literacy/design, Arts & CTS, creative writing, poetry & spoken word, and more! Follow the Production & Practice Guides to share your students' creativity!
The Production Process

Draft, Critique & Revise
Begin with the end in mind, and ensure that a release form like the AF144-A Consent Form is on file for each student. Then engage in the Creative Process with cycles of drafting, feedback, critique and formative assessment to accompany your students’ inquiry & study in any subject or grade level. Presentation scripts created in Google Docs can be submitted as Google Classroom assignments for review. It’s always helpful to share with your students one or more teacher and student exemplars of the project in which they are engaged. |
Rehearse & Record
When the scripts are finalized through the writing process, student presenters will benefit from rehearsal with their teacher that includes feedback and an opportunity to revise and improve. The easiest way to listen and respond to a student rehearsal is in person or via a video conferencing environment like Google Meet. Of course, students can record their presentations and submit a Google Drive video link directly into your Google Classroom Assignment for feedback, but you can also do the recordings yourself on your laptop, if you have their consent forms completed. |
Upload, Organize & Share
When you have all the videos, upload them to your RVS YouTube Channel in your teacher Google Drive account. Organize the videos into a playlist with a title and description. The link to your playlist can be embedded into your Google Site or Schoolblogs as well as shared on social media. Please share your playlist with @RockyViewStudio, as well, for inclusion in the RockyTalks online exhibition by emailing the link! |
